College/Department/Category Announcements
New International Students
-
All new incoming International Students must check in with the Office of International Services before they will be allowed to register.
Undergraduate/Graduate Students
- There has been a change in the undergraduate and graduate drop policy beginning Fall 2002 and beyond. The following pdf files contain the current information.
Graduate College
- Visit the Graduate College website at http://grad.uic.edu/cms/which has important information including periodic announcements and news items of interest.
- Be careful when you register. Pay special attention to the course reference number, section (instructor), and course number for the courses you choose. It is easy to make a mistake for courses with multiple listings. Also make sure you choose the correct amount of hours for courses with variable credit (it defaults to the lowest number of hours if you don’t enter the correct number).
- After you complete your registration verify the accuracy by checking Student Self-Service for your current registration, and make any adjustments before the registration period closes.
- Full-time status for graduate students is 9 hours (5 hours in summer). However, registration in more than 9 hours is required for certain situations (see below). Consult the Office of Financial Aid for information about full-time and part-time status in relation to student loans.
- Students with assistantships must register for a minimum of 8 hours (any courses approved by your advisor will meet this requirement, graduate or undergraduate) in Fall and Spring semesters. (Note that 8 hours registration with an assistantship is not considered full-time, however.) Assistants on a student visa are required to register for 12 hours for a 25% assistantship, 10 hours for a 33% assistantship, and 8 hours for a 50% assistantship; contact the Office of International Services at 996-3121 if in doubt. Summer registration is optional for all assistants, unless you want to use your assistantship tuition and service-fee waiver, in which case you must register for a minimum of 3 hours. Individual programs may require more than the minimums listed here.
- Students holding only tuition and service-fee waivers must register for a minimum of 12 hours (6 in summer) while receiving the waiver. This includes Fellowship recipients. Students with assistantships in Spring automatically receive a Summer tuition waiver if there isn’t a summer appointment. To use that waiver, only 3 hours of registration are required.
- All 12-month fellows must register in summer (6 hours minimum).
